The fine print, minus the fine

Who owns what, in plain language.

This is the whole arrangement. It's also what your one-page agreement says — if anything here ever surprises you later, we've failed.

The easiest way to think about it: your domain is the street address — that's your land, and you own it. The website is the building we put on it, and you're leasing the building from us. Stop leasing, and the building comes down — but the land stays yours, always.

1 · What you pay

Your monthly price — $79 Standard or $199 Professional — and nothing up front. Your first payment happens the day your site goes live, never before. There's no contract and no cancellation fee: cancel any month, effective at the end of that billing month.

2 · Your domain

Your web address is registered as yours from day one. While you subscribe, we manage it for you — registration, renewals, security, settings — so it never lapses and you never touch a registrar. If you ever cancel, or just ask, we transfer it to you or your new provider, free, promptly, no strings. We will never charge you for your own name.

3 · The website

We designed and built it before you paid anything, and we own it while you subscribe — that's the trade that makes "nothing up front" possible. Two things follow:

  • If you cancel, the site comes down permanently. Your domain stays yours (see 2).
  • If you want to own the site outright, you can buy it at any time — including the day you cancel — at a price we put in writing in your agreement before we built anything. That number never changes and never goes up. You get all the site files, and the domain was already yours.

4 · Updates and changes

  • Included: minor updates — hours, prices, menu items, swapping photos you send us, contact details, lines of text. Send a message; it's usually done within two business days.
  • Included before launch: two full rounds of revisions.
  • Quoted first: anything bigger — a new page, a redesign, a new feature, photography. Fixed price in writing before any work starts. If you don't approve it, it doesn't happen and costs nothing.

5 · What we promise — and what we won't

  • Every fact on your site is checked with you before it goes live, and you approve the site before it launches.
  • We monitor your site's uptime and fix problems on our side at no charge.
  • We will never promise you a Google ranking — nobody honest can.
  • We don't lock you in with anything except being worth $79 a month. No contract, and your domain leaves with you.

6 · The agreement

Before we register your domain or launch anything, you get a one-page agreement that says what this page says — including your fixed buyout price — in writing, signed by both of us. Plain language there too.

Questions about any of this? hello@couleewebco.com — you'll get an answer from a person, in plain language, usually the same day.
